I had to call my neurologist today to get him to send me a letter stating that I have a neurological problem that requires me to be allowed to use my pda or a laptop to take notes. My boss ordered me to stop taking notes on my pda and start using a pen and paper (I can't, and I explained that when I started there and was taking notes on the pda, though I didn't go into a lot of medical detail or anything). The reason? People were annoyed by my using the pda because they felt like I wasn't paying attention.
I hate them all.
I didn't even tell her I was calling the neuro--she'd probably try to avoid me doing it so it wouldn't be on record that they had to accommodate me or they'd be in violation of the ADA. I'll wait for the note (which they promised quickly) and just present it to her and to HR. And then I'll remind them they're not allowed to disclose my medical information and watch them have to just defend my right to take notes however I damn well please. Because my neurological issues are none of their business, and I'm pissed that I'm having to go through this.
Oh, and in case you're wondering? Other people take notes on laptops (albeit not many). It's just me.
