Ten Best McDanno Moments

zarah5 started it...how could I resist?

Her challenge was to put together a personal top ten list of McDanno moments from the H50 season. Of course, I couldn't pick a top ten (there are too many and the top ten and the ranking changes by the hour), but these are ten of my top moments. So many to pick from....



1) The Garage/The Punch (1.01)



I ask you, has there ever been a more perfect first meeting? Ever? Guns out, more testosterone than even a garage is probably used to, a total pissing contest, and threats of ambulances being called. And if the ambulance crack was the first twitch in shoving them down Relationship Road, the punch sealed everything.




You could just see Steve completely reevaluating from the moment he realized yes, this loud mouth actually punched him, right up until he started his attempts at apologizing in the car. I loved his evaluating stares at Danny the entire ep, actually. This is just where it started. (And seriously...the hotel for Danny and Grace?? Awwww)

2) Uh, governor, my boyfriend has this custody issue.... (1.03)

Okay, there are actually several little things in this episode - like the way Steve is so great with Grace after it's been pretty clear he has no knowledge of how to talk to kids (what did he do, take a class between 1.02 and 1.03?).



And then there's the moment in the Porsche where Danny goes, "Detour...please," and Steve just smiles like oh it's adorable how you think that you have that option still, and then gets that "Mine, bitch" look and drives away as fast as he can.



But they get a little overshadowed by the fact that he called the governor to have her lean on Danny's ex-wife just because he can. And Danny needs him to. And also, Danny might leave if he loses Grace, and that cannot happen. No way. And also, in case Danny hasn't figured this out, "Maybe you're not as alone here as you think, Danno."



3) Terms of endearment (1.06)



"When I say 'Book 'em, Danno,' it's a term of endearment."



"Okay. Do it every day. I like it."



*big goofy grin*

Do I really need to explain?

4) You miss me, don't you? (1.07)

Who stops in the middle of an investigation to make sure he's alone and ask his partner, in a whisper, "You miss me, don't you?" Oh, right, HIS BOYFRIEND! Though really, I love all their phone calls during this episode. Steve's just got to have Danny there, even if he's not there. God forbid Danny ever take an actual vacation. Without Steve.



Also? "You're serious, and now you're shirtless. Great."



5) "I know you." (1.08)

There are a lot of little things in this ep, like how Steve doesn't get why Danny refuses to believe Meka was not guilty until Danny compares it to the two of them. Oh, okay, I see. Like it was just a switch that flipped on for him when he met Danny and he didn't even realize how odd that was until then.



And then there's how supportive Steve is after that. But yeah, the "I know you didn't know him." "I know you." Yeah. Just...yeah.



6) "I picked you, didn't I?" (1.09)

Danny's totally jealous. But it pays off after Steve has to kill Nick, and Danny's left being both 100% right *and* getting an "I picked you."




Picked being a mild word for Steve walking in going want, take, have and not giving Danny any say in the matter, but I noticed he never really complained about that fact. Everything else, sure. But he never complained that he didn't get a choice.


7) So, um, governor, now my boyfriend's brother is in trouble and the FBI won't tell him why.... (1.18)

Everything about Steve's behavior during the whole thing with Danny's brother is just...yeah. From calling the governor to his "family first, whatever you need" to Danny...



...and finally, and not least of all, lying his ass off to the FBI so Danny can talk to his brother and let him escape if he wants...yeah.



If that ain't love....

Also? Hello, Detective Grabby Hands...



8) I heart you (1.20)

Hiking date?



Danny climbing down to untangle the rope without any sort of safety equipment, just because it looks like rain?



"I *air heart* love you!" (Seriously, read his tongue--he totally mouths "love" there)??



Please to be explaining the heterosexual meanings of this. Really. Go ahead.

9) They're just women! (1.22)

The look on Steve's face when Danny's like, okay, I'm going to interview these women (supermodels) is just...yeah. To quote Kono, "You are so busted." Ha!



10) Poison! (1.23)

From the second Danny goes down, Steve's a hot mess under a layer of pretend calm.



He doesn't even realize he's still wearing his vest until he goes to pick up Grace (how much love I have for that scene where he picks her up...there isn't a measuring stick big enough).



I mean, he seriously doesn't realize for like, ever, that he's standing in a hospital with a bulletproof vest on. Have you ever worn one of those? They're not the most comfortable things...and although I'm sure he's used to it...still. I just love imagining him getting to Danny's car and sitting down and realizing Danny's not there and where he is and it kind of hitting him, and then he sort of focuses on the task at hand and realizes the vest might scare Grace and...yeah...why do I get the feeling I'll be writing this soon?

And, of course, THE HUG. The way Steve closes his eyes and grips Danny's shoulder blade...yeah. Just...yeah. (Damn, Sang Min...)



Okay, so it's more or less ten... I might've lumped a few in there together under one...and sure it's probably more my top ten McDanno eps...but hey, it's not my fault they gave us so much material! (And I didn't even get to include 1.24 - the way Danny talked Steve down (or so he thought) and the way he promised to get him out of there and that last look from the back of the squad car...gaah!)
